SERVICES

  • Individual Psychotherapy with adolescents and adults
  • Couples Therapy—I primarily use Real Relational Therapy, a practical, skills-oriented approach. (See Links for more information.)
  • EMDR.  I have completed Levels 1 & II EMDR.  I am impressed and excited by its many uses and applications in helping people "digest" difficult experiences; once these experiences are digested, people find strengths in themselves that they did not know they had.
  • Group Therapy:  Men’s Group -- new session in March 2011 (see below)

Men’s Group: “A Conversation For Men”

It has been said that it is not the meaning of life that we long for, rather the experience of being alive.  How does this apply to men?

Because we men tend to define ourselves by our accomplishments, we often experience life as a series of tasks, which then limits the ways that we relate with others...and even to ourselves. Men can become isolated as well, and that leaves us living way below our potential.

“A Conversation for Men” will be a group in which men strive to bring out the best in one another, a group where men will explore the meaning of showing up emotionally and making responsible decisions as intimate partners, as co-parents, and as friends.

The group will require a commitment from mid-March to mid-June, at which point we intend to break for the summer with plans to resume in early fall.

 -Three-month series -- mid-March through mid-June

-Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9:15 P.M.

- Candler Park, Atlanta, Ga. 30307

- $65 per session

The group will be limited to eight, and we hope to attract a diverse group of men.

Group Facilitators:

Thrower Starr, PhD has been involved both personally and professionally in men’s work for the past 30 years.  During that same time span, he has been working as a teacher, a counselor, and a therapist. Recently, he has been learning more about relationships and is working towards certification in Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy.  In addition to raising his children and coaching teenage boys in sports for many years, he has been improving himself as a husband.  Now that his kids are mostly grown, he has time to participate in a variety of sports including ultimate Frisbee and inline hockey; he also writes poetry.

Dick Bathrick, MA¸LMFThas facilitated groups for men for the past twenty-seven years. He sees men’s groups as an effective way to promote individual and societal transformation.  Dick and his partner Jesse have been together for 30 years and when their son Sam left home they turned a lot of their energy to their community garden, where the focus is growing organic veggies, flowers, and raising goats and chickens. His passions include sailing, West African drumming and, when he had two operating knees, basketball.
